Journals
In line with the CSSSW's desire to increase Canadian scholarship in the area of spirituality and social, members of the CSSSW Board co-edited several special issues of scholarly journals based on presentations at our conferences. Most of these publications are open-access scholarly journals to enable their availability to a wide readership. Through these efforts, the CSSSW has made a significant and ongoing contribution to Canadian scholarship in this area.
Currents: New Scholarship in the Human Services 1(1) published several articles developed from presentations made at the First Canadian Conference on Spirituality and Social Work (Toronto 2002) Currents: New Scholarship in the Human Services, 1(1).
Currents: New Scholarship in the Human Services, 2(2) and 3(1) published a second group of papers on spirituality and social work, co-edited by Drs. John Graham (University of Calgary) and John Coates (St. Thomas University), based on the Second Canadian Conference on Spirituality and Social Work, 2003 at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Critical Social Work 6(2) 2005, was the first of three special issues in this journal focusing on Spirituality and Social Work. Drs. John Graham and John Coates co-edited the first special issue that included papers based on presentations from the Third Annual Canadian Conference on Spirituality and Social Work: Spiritual Identity and Transformation, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba in June, 2004.
Critical Social Work 7(1) 2006 was the second special issue of Critical Social Work based primarily upon presentations at the Fourth Annual Canadian Conference on Spirituality and Social Work: Discerning the Spirit: Reimagined Social Work (King's University College, Western University, London, Ontario, 2005). This special issue was also co-edited by Drs. Coates and Graham.
Journal of Religion, Spirituality and Social Work, 27(1-2) 2008, co-edited by Drs. Ann Nichols, Diana Coholic, and Susan Cadell included articles based on presentations at the First North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work, Renison College, University of Waterloo, 2006.
Critical Social Work 10(1) 2009 was the third special issue of this journal and this issue published articles based on presentations at the Third North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work, (University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, 2008); edited by Drs. John Coates and Jeannette Waegemakers-Schiff.
Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work 30(3) 2011 published articles based on presentations at the Fifth North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work (St. Thomas University, Frederiction, New Brunswick in 2010); edited by Drs. John R. Graham, Jeannette Waegemakers Schiff and John Coates.
Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work 33(3-4) 2014 published scholarly papers from the 7th North American Coonference on Spirituality and Social Work, (Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2012). Heather Boynton (PhD Candidate) and Jo-Ann Vis (PhD) co-edited this special issue.
Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work (in press) will publish scholarly papers from the 9th North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work (St. Thomas University, Fredericton, New Brunswick, 2010); co-edited by Drs. Arielle Dylan and John Coates.
Plans are underway to publish an on-line, peer-reviewed, scholarly book based on papers presented at the 2016 conference scheduled for Vancouver, June 2016.
